Ian Kar 👋 GP @ Vol. 1 Ventures

First off, my apologies that this seems like you're reading a version of my LinkedIn bio (that's because you are.) Most people are interested in me professionally, so wanted to start off with that.

I'm currently a cofounder & General Partner at Vol. 1 Ventures, an early stage venture fund focused on backing startups innovating in regulated industries. Before that I started, built, and sold Fintech Today; was a product manager at Acorns; the head of product at a wine e-commerce company; and spent 2.5 years as a journalist at places like Newsweek & Quartz (a division of The Atlantic.) 

Professionally, I'm interested in using technology to reinvent financial services (what we call "Next-Gen Finance" at Vol. 1 Ventures), the future of media and community, crypto, the future of defense tech, finding different ways to use AI in my day-to-day life, and learning more about biotech, healthcare, & genetics. I also spend a lot of time reading, thinking, and writing about investing—mainly venture capital and private market investing. 

Personally, I live in California, love hanging out with my family and my adorable and crazy dog. I'm also a big plant guy. I love sports (basketball, football, baseball, soccer in that order) and music (a lot of different genres), and writing.
